Rome is… a Queen Bee

I love the water. I love the fountains of water features, ergo, I love Rome.
Because in this city, you will find many fountains, as in no other city.

Decorative elements, the fountains of Rome, from the most famous to the drinking fountains, are scattered throughout the city.
Each has a story and every design element has a meaning.

Nothing was left to chance, as the FONTANA DELLE API, the Fountain of the Bees, one of my favorite small fountains, in Piazza Barberini.
It has been  a tribute to Pope Urban VIII and to the family emblem, precisely the bees.

The Latin inscription informed that this fountain, was a gift of the Pope, and the water was available to the people and animals.

But surely you will not miss a visit to the Trevi Fountain to throw a coin behind ….

“No man can make you feel safe, like a cashmere coat and a pair of black glasses.”(Coco)

Crazy weather in Rome, but the sunny days are still cold.
What’s better than a nice cashmere sweater?

A purchase of great value, with the charm of Italian fashion …

I guess that’s something you can not miss in the closet, because they are useful in both summer and winter.

Or, as Coco Chanel: “No man can make you feel safe, like a cashmere coat and a pair of black glasses.”

Passing through the center, walking to the Pantheon, take a look at the window at number 31 in Via Campo Marzio…

A specialized and funny cashmere shop,,,, not the usual cashmere.

Art Nouveau and Liberty Stained Glass at Villa Torlonia Museum

European history is fascinating. Each country can tell us his personal tradition, made up of conquests, wars, pain, peace treaties, economic booms and misery, and art, art, art and more art.

One of the artistic periods, more coy, is undoubtedly that of Art Nouveau. In Rome, in the early ’20s, exploded the Art Nouveau, and began to appear beautiful stained windows glass, painted on fire!

Eclectic art, at the beginning, offered mainly medieval figures, to meet the demands of the bourgeoisie. But soon after, appeared geometric shapes and natural themes. The windows became important decorative element of the domestic spaces.

You may see an example of the Art of glass is  the ” CASINA DELLE CIVETTE “ ( “House of the Owls” of the noble Torlonia family) that currently has become the Museum of  Liberty Stained  Glass.

English: Villa Torlonia (Rome), interior

Here you can even see the evolution of the artistic technique, admiring the light that illuminates swans, peacocks, owls and migratory birds, butterflies and roses… that come to life from those wonderful windows.

In addition, the park where the CASINA DELLE CIVETTE is , is really nice….

“Putting on the same line of sight, the heart, the mind and the eye.”

“Putting on the same line of sight, the heart, the mind and the eye.”

This was the thought of Henri Cartier Bresson, the great photographer of the moment and eternity!

This exhibition is a journey between his art and the memories of his best friends, the thoughts of other great artists, historians, photographers and intellectuals who knew him

The exhibition is titled in fact, Images and Words, and  narrative voices will accompany you as a guide.

The artist who knew how to make a seemingly insignificant moment, a masterpiece…

I love the black and white, even if it seems easier, not at all.

Here are his ten lessons for “photos from the road”:

- Focusing on the geometry
- Be patient
- travel
- Be faithful to a single goal
- Photographing children
- Not be intrusive
- Look at the world as a painter
- Do not cut photos
- Not develop the photos yourself
- Think of the next photograph.

Cartier Bresson was not jealous of his pictures, like all geniuses, he was generous…

HENRI CARTIER BRESSON: “Immagini e Parole”
PALAZZO INCONTRO, Via dei Prefetti 22, Roma
Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 to 19.00

Watch out to the walls!

Rome, the eternal city, crossed the Tiber
Rome, so hard to live, for its old streets and lanes of San Pietrini so delicate!

Rome, which will charm you with its secret corners and its history… such as that of plaques that commemorate the many floods of the Tiber, which over the centuries have devastated this proud city!

Yes, there are about sixty  floods, the first dates back to 414 BC, but the flooding of the city seems to have been even 132!

Not to forget these tragedies, which often resulted in death, over the years, the plaques and water meters were affixed to the walls of Rome, in places where the water had reached truly remarkable heights, as in Via di Ripetta, more than 16 meters!

One of these floods in late 1600, the highest and most devastating, caused the collapse of the three arches of the Bridge of Senators, which was not rebuilt and took the nickname of ”Broken Bridge”!

So, while strolling through the streets of Rome, watch out to the walls!
